    About
    Biography

Barbara Tipton is best known for wheel-thrown and hand-built and/or altered stoneware and porcelain ?wall forms? sculptures of teacup and saucer. Often the cups are wheel-thrown and flattened. Once the cup has set, the saucer and handle are attached. Tipton applies multiple slips and glazes and fires each sculpture several times in an electric kiln. In another body of work, Tipton throws plate forms and decorates them with unique narrative illustrations using slips and glazes.

Tipton was married to the ceramic artist John Chalke, with whom she ran Wild Rose Pottery.
