    About
    Biography

Courtney Murphy is known for wheel-thrown or slip-cast terracotta functional pottery which incorporates raw clay body into the surface designs. Surface techniques include the application of a precise white dominant form which separates the decorated area from continuous areas of the undecorated clay body.

The minimal use of incised line and dot colors echo elements of the white form and complete the pattern. Patterns can be unique for one vessel or repeated with slight variations on many vessel forms.

At present (2018) Murphy?s work reflects mid-century modern forms and is primarily dinnerware.
