    About
    Biography

Dawn Navasie is known for traditional Hopi style pottery pieces that are larger than the typical pots made by her family. The large pieces allow more room to paint the designs that cover the pot?s surface. Her imagery includes mythical rainbirds, rain clouds, moth, weather symbols, and other motifs from nature. Natural minerals and vegetables like wild bee plant, hematite, and red clay are used for coloration. Firing is done in the traditional manner using sheep dung as fuel a pit firing. Dawn Navasie ,a Hopi-Tewa, is a member of the Navasieand Naha families , both known for their work with clay, particularly their use of white slip as a surface decoration. She is a daughter of Eunice Navasie and was born into the Water Clan.
