Hank Goodman is known for wheel-thrown or slab made functional stoneware vessel forms. His production includes some large-scale bottle and vase forms that are up to 24 inches tall.
Goodman specializes in ash glazes which he says, ?create a busy surface as they melt and pull together to form ?streams? or ?stringers, this wet look of the glaze emphasizes the form of each piece rather than hiding or detracting from it.? Goodman finds inspiration in historical Oriental and Greek vessels including vases, bottles, teapots, and sculpture, as well as the North Carolina mountain landscape. He began to throw on the wheel during his senior year at Buena Vista University.
