Michelle Erickson creates a range contemporarywork drawing inspiration from historical ceramics. Erickson has devoted much of her career to clay research, working to rediscover lost ceramic formulae and techniques. She also has significant experience in 17th and 18th century reproduction pottery.
Erickson's research of historical ceramics led her to work with a large variety of clay bodies using a range of methods and surface techniques. Erickson also uses her ceramic works for social and political commentary.Among Erickson's historicizing forms are a Bonnin and Morris Pickle Stand, a Moravian squirrel bottle and a faience ring bottle.Erickson has also produced a body of slipware and other wares, generallyunmarked, that reference historic objects.
