Karen Hamilton

Karen Hamilton is known for wheel-thrown and altered earthenware functional pottery. In the leather-hard stage, forms are cut and slabs inserted to change overall form. Signature forms include a variety of lidded jars, flasks, baskets with applied handle, and vases. Earthenware pieces are glaze fired in an electric kiln using a series of semi-matte hues. Cool blues, yellows, reds, and oranges dominate Hamilton's low fire glazing palette.

Occasionally Hamilton works in porcelain which is fired in an atmospheric kiln using wood, salt, and soda.
