    About
    Biography

Lauren Mabry is known for creating earthenware ceramic sculpture. Work is typically focused on the cylinder in various stand-alone and assemblage presentations. Through a painterly approach on three-dimensional forms, Mabry investigates the relationship between sculpture, painting, and ceramics.

Pieces often go through a process of applying white or colored slip in the leather hard stage. Mabry's works are then either left to honor the original cylinder form, or altered in some way. Pieces are sometimes pulled apart in the leather hard stage and re-constructed in a new way, cut, and molded to create a wall piece in the finished state, or arranged in multiples.Mabry further draws connections to abstract painting, minimalism, and process art.

Glazes and line-work are expressive and intuitive. Mabry fires her work in an electric kiln multiple times. Applying a full color spectrum range of glazes. She focuses on developing glaze drips and spills that flow in and out of the ceramic form in the finished state. About her work, Mabry states that her aim is to create pieces that are scintillating and dramatic.
