Mark Shapiro?s interest in early American stoneware is an ongoing inspiration for his work which includes the exploration of bottle, flask, and other domestic forms.
His work is often altered by paddling or carving thrown forms. The colors on his stoneware are the result of wood firing. Some of his pieces have glazes used in geometric patterns or as abstract calligraphy.
