Matthew Patton is known for functional heel thrown and slab built stoneware and porcelain functional pottery high fired in reduction gas kiln. Patton is best known for his wall platters. Surface techniques include the overall application of deep reds, cobalt blues, and other brightly hued glazes in broad geometric patterns or organic designs. Patton considers each piece to mainly be a vehicle for expressive glazes[1].
Patton studied ceramics at the University of Washington and Central Washington State University before setting up a studio at Pottery Northwest in Seattle, Washington. Patton eventually set up a home studio outside of Seattle.
