    Norm Hines is known for slab-built stoneware functional vessel forms and large scale sculptures. A wood kiln is used for the ceramic pieces with the addition of soda ash for the glaze firing. Surface techniques include hand carved texture in the greenware stage.

    Aside from his work in clay, Hines also worked with metals and stone. In addition to his studio practice, Hines founded the ceramics program at Pomona College, Claremont, California.
