Oscar Bucher is known for stoneware or porcelain wheel thrown vessels, often very large scale. Some pieces have lids incorporating translucent agate attachments.
Oscar Bucher was raised in Switzerland and originally trained as an accountant. He later received ceramic training at the former Eidgenossische Keramische Fachschule, in Bern, Switzerland.
His influences include Gertrude and Otto Natzler, Hans Coper, and contemporary Scandinavian pottery. Glazes of Asian origin, such as celadon, oxblood, Shino and Chun, inform his surface treatment.
