Ron Hand is known for functional and decorative pottery. Works range from precision thrown and altered vessels to wabi sabi teabowls, produced using a Japanese aesthetic that values roughness and asymmetry. Hand?s work was most often created from stoneware clay that he dug and processed in central Pennsylvania. Pieces are most often thrown on the potter?s wheel and altered in the greenware stage. Works feature a variety of earth toned glazes. Occasionally, loosely painted glaze or stain line drawings featuring animals, or abstract patterning appear on the surfaces of Hand's ware
