Rosemary Ishii MacConnell is known for non-functional mixed media sculpture. Her works are in porcelain, glass, paper, clay, slate, and stone. She often mixed media in one piece. MacConnell was born in one of ten internmen camps built to incarcerate Japanese Americans during World War II. Many of her sculptures were created to honor the memories of her parents and incorporate bits of detritus found in the remains of the camps.
