Samuel Azzaro worked in porcelain with traditional high fire glazes, inlaid porcelain, terra sigliata and luster glazed surfaces. Although he is known for his porcelain vessels, Azzaro also worked with stoneware, earthenware and sculptural forms.
In the 1990s, Azzaro made a series of colorful porcelain plates with elaborate surface decoration. Inspired by early Chinese and Native American pottery, Azzaro decorated these plates with patterns derived from a graphic combination of these sources.
Azzaro taught wheel throwing and hand-building at Keene State College, New Hampshire, for 38 years.
