Sarah Frederick is known for her functional press-molded terracotta jars, teapots, plates, and bowls, often decorated with painted fruit and vegetables. Frederick?s surface technique employed the mixing of glaze, stain, slip, and flux resulting in a velvety matte finish. Early in her career, Frederick worked in porcelain.
At Louisville, Frederick studied with Tom Marsh. At the Appalachian Craft Center in Tennessee, she studied with Joe Bova, Sandy Simon, who taught her how to paint on pots, and Cynthia Bringle.
