Susi Singer is known forelongated earthenware figures that are very freely painted, some of them almost childlike.
Singer earned a scholarship to train at Wiener Werkst䴴e, Vienna Workshops, where she stayed for 16 years. She wanted to study painting at the Wiener Werkst䴴e, but Joseph Hofmann discouraged her, and she ended up in the ceramics workshop, where she was relegated to making figurines. Malnutrition during World War I left her permanently handicapped. She came to the United States and settled in Pasadena, CA. Her work quickly evolved to include images drawn from Hollywood and the California lifestyle.
