Thomas Maltbie is known for earthenware pottery vessels frequently raku fired. His decorative techniques include terra sigillata and use of mixed media. He is also known for exploration of cast kiln glass.
Maltbie received two Lilly Endowment honors for teaching. In 1996 the Teacher Creativity Fellowship and in 2006 Distinguished Fellow honor for his programs in architectural glass murals.
