    About
    Biography

Travis Hinton is known for wheel-thrown and hand-built or a combination of the two, functional and sculptural ceramics. Hinton?s firing methods include high-fired reduction and soda atmospheric firing in a wood-fired kiln. Surface techniques include carving, slip trailing, stamping, and incising as well as applying hand built elements to the vessel form. His glaze surfaces vary with the different ashes he creates from various plants; with each firing different colors and textures are created.

Hinton's more sculptural work often uses abstracted figural forms, at times they remain functional. Hinton?s work also employs colored clay and wood ash and is fired in a salt environment. A unique form is Hinton?s sculptural functional ?house bottle?.
