    About
    Biography

Hannah Niswonger hand builds functional pots using white stoneware. She uses a Chinese calligraphy brush to create drawings on bone dry pots with under-glaze stains that act like an ink wash or watercolors on the absorbent surface of the clay.

Niswonger formulates her own glazes and stains. She then scratches and carves into the drawings, adding and removing details. Wax resist is used to create motifs that are reminiscent of printed patterns.
