Yoko Sekino-Bové makes functional porcelain wares including pouring vessels, tea sets, and jars. Sekino-Bové’s work is often decorated with illustrations of Japanese animals, cranes, goldfish, koi fish, and swallows.
Frequently the device of the comic book speech balloon is used to engage these illustrated figures in "conversation". Other decorative techniques used are carvings, multiple glazes, and at times lusters.
Sekino-Bové was born in Osaka, Japan studied graphic design, and advertising and later pursued her interest in ceramics. She is an Adjunct Ceramic Instructor at Seton Hill University.
