Jade Snow Wong | 1922 – Present

Jade Snow Wong is known for wheel thrown functional stoneware, fired in reduction in a gas kiln. According to Wong, “Incised design through slip is a favorite way of decorating (for me).”1 Wong worked in clay from the early 1950s though 1985.

F. Carlton Ball was her instructor at Mills College. In addition, Wong attended a seminar with guest instructor Bernard Leach. She is known to have collaborated with Katherine Choy, founder of the Clay Art Center in Port Chester, New York, while both were students at Mills College.

Wong is also well known for functional work in copper and enamel.
