Nick Joerling creates anthropomorphic stoneware pieces, thrown and altered to give the illusion of movement. The works reflect his interest in drawing and illustration both in form and minimalist surface decoration. The surface treatment he uses accents the sense of movement built into the form.Joerling is influenced by Mimbres pottery, African/Oceanic art, and painters including Paul Klee. From 1980-1983, Joerling worked at Jon Ellenbogen and Becky Plummer's Barking Spider pottery.
