Romilla Batrais known for porcelain works that are primarily hand built in press molds and inlaid with porcelain colored with oxides. Her workincludes both functional and non-functional forms that represent her personal experiences with the natural environment, particularly the landscape in the Bay Area. After the first firing, the pieces are finished with a painted oxide on the exterior, partially removed with a sponge. The interiors of the pots washed with a clear glaze and, then, reduction fired. Many of the pieces are made in a series of successive works based on a single design idea.
