Brenda Lichman is known for functional work, often created in sets that allow her to explore the relationships between pieces. Her porcelain forms are thrown and altered and then coated with a thick layer of porcelain slip which adds the element of texture. The pieces are often fired in a soda kiln in which case Lichman sprays the work with flashing slips to encourage areas of ?flash? or orange surface blush.
