George Bowes | 1961 – Present

Posey Bacopoulos is known for functional tablewares with brightly colored surface decoration. Her pots combine thrown, altered and hand-built sections that are assembled to create novel forms. She uses low fired terra cotta clay with a majolica surface technique.

Bacopoulos' approach to majolica involves the use ofa smooth, opaque white glaze of Zircopax, a replacement for the traditional tin glaze, to which colorants are applied in a thin wash to create colorful decoration. Occasionally, she incorporates gold decals in addition to the majolica decoration.

Bacopoulos' work explores the relationship between surface decoration, form and function. Her motifs, shapes and colors reflect her interest in textiles and interior design.
