Different underglazes, glazes and stencils as well as sgraffito are used to decorate the work. The pieces are fired in an electric or gas kiln. Smith shares a studio with his wife, Jaqueline Cohen. Smith produces the pottery, Cohen decorates. Smith and Vaughn moved to the United States in 1985.
