Ani Kasten is known for wheel-thrown and hand-built stoneware,porcelain or a combination of both,sculptural vessel forms and functional pottery. Her piece soften incorporate, rocks and natural earth materials. Surface decoration is minimal. Surface techniques include incised line work in conjunction with pigments,slips and glazes. Most forms appear white with earth-toned or grey highlights recessed in roughly carved lines. Kasten says of her work,?I have been developing a studio practice that incorporates traditional craftsmanship principles I gained from the apprenticeships with experiences and ideas acquired during my subsequent world travels.?[1]
