Jocelyn Braxton Armstrong | 1958 – Present

Jocelyn Braxton Armstrong?s work falls into two categories, figurative sculpture and functional ceramics. In both cases she works with porcelain and black slip. Armstrong?s functional pieces are offered under the name JBA Signature Collection.

The functional pieces are thrown, sometimes altered, and decorated with black slip and occasionally the addition of color. Each sculptural piece is created from thinly thrown porcelain pieces that are cut apart, altered and reassembled using black slip so they appear to be stitched together. She applies the slip, sponges off the excess then when the piece is dry she sands the surface until it is highly polished. Some sculptures are fired without further glazing others receive a coat of clear all over glaze.
