Teapot

USA, 1900

This teapot has bamboo top handle on a body that begins with a narrow foor expands to a rounded shoulder then slants inward to a short neck. The domed lid extends beyond the neck. The surface is covered with irregular squares. The color of each square begins with dark blue at the top that gradually fades to light blue at the bottom. The squares are arranged at an angle with a corner toward the top and another toward the bottom of the pot. Their edges create a series of strong diagonal lines. The straight spout is one color blue and begins with a bulge where it joins the body of the pot.

A view of the underside shows how the squares end near the foot bleeding onto a black ground. There is a white sticker with #204-C. The accession number, 2004.23.A, is written directly on the clay.
