Gerit Grimm is known for stylized figurative ceramic sculpture. Grimm builds her figures part by part on the potter's wheel. Once each part is thrown, Grimm begins joining pieces together in the leather-hard stage. Surface techniques include hand modeling and carving. Little to no glaze is used, emphasizing raw earth-toned clay as a finished surface. Sculptural compositions often include multiple human figures or multiple human figures paired with animals.
