Adrian Saxe is best known for work that shows influences of classic Chinese ceramics, which he enhances by adding a humorous twist. He often uses S趲es glazes and gold luster on his pieces, which typically began with a cast component.
Saxe studied with Ralph Bacerra and John Coplans at Chouinard Art Institute. His early work was primarily concerned with site-specific sculpture that he created using large numbers of ceramic pieces. He has worked with stoneware and earthenware, although his best known pieces are porcelain.
An interview with Adrian Saxe conducted October 10 and 15, 2007, by Jo Lauria for the Archives of American Art?s Nanette L. Laitman Documentation Project for Craft and Decorative Arts in America is available at: www.aaa.si.edu/collections/interviews/oral-history-interview-adrian-saxe-13666.
