Will Swanson is known for wheel-thrown and altered functional stoneware pottery meant for household use. Surface techniques include faceting in the leather-hard stage and assembling wheel-thrown segments into a finished form.
Swanson gas fires work in a reduction atmosphere. Glazes are typically limited with clay and hand-made qualities emphasized.
Swanson shares a studio with his wife Janel Jacobson. In addition to his personal creations, Swanson was instrumental in founding and for over a quarter of a century developing the annual St. Croix Valley Pottery Tour in Minnesota.
